Kanye admits to suicidal thoughts
Believe it or not, there was a time when the good life, didn't seem so good for the notorious Kanye West.
West, 33, admitted to audience members at a screening of his new short film Runaway in L.A., that he considered taking his own life several times in the past. Refusing to specify exactly when, or for what reason he struggled with his inner demons, Kanye told the audience "I will not give up on life again. "
The rapper then went on to modestly describe himself as a "pop icon" and a "soldier of culture." (Find out more about the icon at Kanye

Waka Flocka Flame on Gucci Mane: “We couldn’t meet on a business level I guess..”

Earlier tonight, Waka Flocka Flame visited the Hot 107.9 studios to speak with DJ Drama on Gangsta Grillz Radio. The main topic of the conversation was of course the current talk the past few days about a rift between Waka and his fellow Brick Squad 1017 brethren Gucci Mane. Yesterday we posted the Interview Waka had with VIBE Magazine speaking somewhat on the topic. In this audio Waka uses the time to speak more into a subject that’s had the streets and fans wondering...

‘Power’ Video Director Talks Possible Title For Kanye West’s Album

Last time Kanye was to release an album, there was absolute frenzy on the internet regarding the potential / rumored album titles and covers. I think the trend is going to continue this time around as well.
NY Mag caught up with the director of the video for ‘Power’ Marco Brambilla who talked about the concept of the video and the potential title of the new album.
And I understand you’ve heard that Dark Twisted Fantasy is the name of the album?
I’ve heard that’s the latest name. I would say not locked-in, and it would probably not get locked until closer to the time of the album release."

Bun B Interview w/ OnSMASH + Bun B on his Source 5-Mic rating:
Earlier today, Bun B’s Trill OG album was given a 5-Microphone rating from The Source Magazine. Heated debate ensued. Which is interesting because I don’t remember the same uproar when Lil Kim got 5-mics for an album, which you probably can’t name a song off of. (The album was called Naked Truth. Ring a bell? Nah, right?) Anyways, I don’t pretend that the magazine or the mic-ing system holds the same weight as it did back in the days when a career could be launched off of it. But I’d also would never deny the writer of that review the right to make his/her decision, which hopefully is free from any political influence (which was probably not the case with Lil Kim. I mean if anything in her cannon was a classic, Hardcore at least had the longevity of that term). Having just started listening to Trill OG, I don’t know that I would give it 5-mics over some of the UGK (group) and Bun B (solo) work that missed the internet-citizen-loudspeaker era we’re in now. But don’t act like The Departed was Marty Scorsese’s best work either.
Bun accepted the Source’s rating and acknowledged the debate it sparked in a personal letter….
When I started rapping, the highest honor a real MC could aspire to was the coveted 5 mics from Source Magazine. It was only given to the best of the best in hip hop, the cream of the crop so to speak. Those that received the honor were sometimes but not always contested, but what WAS always contested were those that DIDN’t receive the honor. If you’ve ever argued about your favorite MC on a corner, in a barbershop or on the comment section of a blog, then you know what I’m talking about. For every album labeled a classic, there are dozens of others that people feel deserve the honor. So I realize that people now feel they have to place my album next to others that they feel were more impactful, and argue their case. With social networking being as prevalent as it is in our society, these arguments now take place in a very public arena, which in order to be heard, you often have to be very opinionated and abrasive to stand out. So people, while having no personal hate or malice towards me, will make very loud arguments about The Source’s decision, and the loudest ones will probably get the most attention. Having been in the music industry almost 20 years, I have learned to receive my accolades with honor and respect, and hold my head high when the hate rains down. I love hip hop just as much or even more than the next person, so I understand the passion behind the argument. At the end of the day, we all want this thing we love to be as real and pure as the day we fell in love with it. Having said all this, it is with great honor and admiration that I humbly accept this esteemed declaration from the Source Magazine and it’s staff for my album Trill OG, and for those that feel they need to shit on me to argue for another artist or album, don’t worry. The Trill OG can take it! UGK for life!"

Slaughter House 2010 Interview (On-Air Idiot Show)
On-Air Idiots ask Joey, Joell, Crook & Royce Da 5’9″ about beats they had first in their solo careers that later went on to become hits.
Joell says he regrets passing on producer Red Spyda’s “Good Love”, which became Sheek’s last chart hit in 2008.
Joey says he two-track’d Swizz Beatz’ “I’m A Hustla” & “Bring ‘Em Out” a year before they came out. He pushed hard for Def Jam to purchase them but they refused. (…Jay wasn’t president until 2005, long after those singles dropped…)
Royce tells the infamous story about “Renegade”. Royce felt they could do better when Em & him made it, so they left it on the shelf until Jay called… He blames it on being overcritical of himself when he’s in a creative mindframe.
Crook says he passed on C. Delores Tucker’s favorite, Tupac’s “How Do U Want It”, when he had his first record deal with Virgin.
They also name current beats they’d like to freestyle over as a group, whether they think lyricists can still make money in Hip-Hop, and who would be a good 5th member of Slaughterhouse.

Wyclef To Run For President of Haiti

Well, we might as well start calling this guy Mr. President now because I can’t imagine that Haiti isn’t going to elect him damn near unanimously. Or will they? Will his ubiquitous popularity in his homeland translate to a sweep of the election, or do Haitians only view him as an inspirational leader and not necessarily a political one? Can you even be elected to public office if you’ve made a song with ODB? Either way, how sick would that be if he wins?

Justin Bieber Makes Beats with Dr. Dre
The 25 Best Songs Of 2010 [Via. Complex]
It’s obvious from our list of The 25 Best Albums Of 2010 (So Far) that this year has blessed us with more than a few bangers that can be played from the intro to the bonus cuts. But we also live in a time when the iTunes charts mean just as much as the Billboard charts, so sometimes a song will get played 50 times straight just because it’s that hot. We wield this annoying tendency of ours without regard for genre, artist, album, or co-signs; it’s really just whatever grabs our attention. So for the last of our Best of 2010 (So Far) series, we considered all songs and freestyles released BEFORE July 2010, and came up with a diverse set of 25 that we’d gladly put on repeat any day.

Dr. Dre’s HP Envy Laptop Commercial
And so the official, Jimmy Iovine sanctioned roll-out of “Under Pressure” begins. If you listen real close I think you can hear an NMC tag. I wonder if the song is still sitting around Dre’s studio “unfinished” and they just sold HP the instrumental? I also wonder if they were shooting for intentional irony by using a song that Dre seems reluctant to complete and release, from an album that he seems reluctant to complete and release, in a commercial that depicts him “remastering” and improving a laptop for the marketplace. It looks like they’re gonna extend this ridiculously long and drawn out album hype cycle with an additional, exhausting promotional build up to an album that can’t possibly be good enough to justify this decade long jerk around we’ve been getting.
Video: Rick Ross Talks About Jeezy’s “B.M.F.”
Ross and Jeezy will be beefing withing a week or so. Yesterday during his promotional conference call somebody asked Jeezy whether or not his version of “B.M.F.” with Meech was a shot at The Cop and he made a point of not denying that it was, so yeah. Jeezy better watch it or he’s gonna risk coming off like a clown though. Yeah, you got the real Meech on your shit, but Ross has the hotter song, which is all people care about at the end of the day.
Ras Kass ft. HRSMN – This Sh*t Right Here
Ras reunites the HRSMN (himself, Canibus, Killah Priest and Kurupt) for this cut off A.D.I.D.A.S. which finally drops today. If you cop it from Bandcamp and use the code ‘HRSMN’, you can get 30% off until July 22nd.

Video: Dow Jones of Tha Bizness Talks Carter IV
Dow Jones, one-half of Tha Bizness, tells Rap-Up that “Tha Carter IV will change your life.”
When asked if their Carter IV tracks have features, he only gives a hint that one of them features someone Drake wanted to get on his album. Immediately I thought Andre 3000 but a few seconds later, Dow says “it’s someone Wayne’s never had a song with, but should’ve.”
Drake PAPER Magazine Interview Outtakes (Avoiding The Internet, His Andre 3000 Shrine, Wants To Play Obama)

PAPER Magazine (organizers of that infamous free Drake show) just put up outtakes from their cover story interview by Jozen Cummings.
On negative blog commenters:
I stopped going on a computer. I have a problem where if I go read a hundred positive things about me and there’s one guy in there who says ‘I hate Drake’ that’s the one I pay attention to. I think that’s a common problem. Negativity hurts us more than positivity helps us. I asked about 10 or 20 people around me, ‘When’s the last time you went on a website and commented on something, like a song dropped and you went on and said, ‘That song is hot’ or ‘That song is terrible?’ And everyone I asked around me, whose opinions I respect, the people I love, were like, ‘I’ve never done that before.’ And these are all level-headed, intelligent people whose opinion I respect, so I just started saying to myself, ‘It takes a certain type of individual to really participate in a group discussion about someone else, especially if they’re going super hard with consistent hate.
On playing Obama:
I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him. That’s the goal [laughs]. I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions. Slowly but surely, I’m not in the study mode because nobody’s called me about anything, but I just pay attention so when the day comes I’m not scrambling to learn how to speak like him. I want to be involved in great film projects. I don’t want to do the basketball movie that everyone does. I don’t want to do the typical black film that everyone expects. I think that I have enough experience to actually be involved in a real meaty project full of substance.
How he honors Andre 3000:
I have a shrine in my apartment dedicated to Andre. I took a door off a barn and had an artist take the lyrics from his verses [and put them] on this barn door. As soon as you walk into my apartment that’s the first thing you see.
Why he’s not concerned about overexposure:
Overexposure would be me in every single video, me on Twitter every single day, me… having my hand in all these pots because I feel I’m hot. That’s overexposure. Overexposure isn’t when people love you too much and are excited. I hate when people confuse the two. I actually say no way more than I say yes to opportunities are presented to me.

Lindsay Lohan x KAWS Cover Complex Magazine (Aug/Sept.10)
Hip-Hop loves Lindsay Lohan. I mean she’s a bad ass white girl that doesn’t seem to give a f*ck about what anyone has to say about her and as Complex says “is on that rap sh*t.” And pairing her with Kaws, fuggedaboutit. I even remember when Linds said 50, Diddy and Dame all tried to holla at her on different occasions ahaha. Anyway, read on to find out why Lindsay was picked as Plex’s latest cover girl and what she did… or didn’t have to say…
“Rappers might be on that rock shit, but Lindsay Lohan is on that rap shit. Flaking on interviews? Check. Unrepentant bad behaviour? Check. Gully enough to ignore a bench warrant, come back from Europe for a legal hearing, and have her court-supplied alcohol bracelet go off at the MTV Movie Awards? Check and mate. She’s Weezy, Yeezy, and motherfucking Jeezy all in one. Who else would choose her comeback vehicles to be Robert Rodriguez’s Machete and the Linda Lovelace biopic, Inferno? That’s gully on both counts. ” (Read the full story at Complex)
